German Green politicians have published an open letter to EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen calling for the EU to stop ongoing checks at several German border crossings, which they see as a violation of the Schengen agreement.

The German government has registered several border crossings for checks as exceptions to the border-free Schengen travel area to curb irregular migration, as permitted by the code’s rules.
